Crazy Couture A gown pinned together with £10,000 worth of bank notes, a dress made out of After Eight mints and a coffee table that converts into a skirt - welcome to the crazy world of catwalk couture. But while these outrageous garments delight the photographers, how much do they influence the average person’s wardrobe?

“Fashion is all about getting noticed, says fashion photographer, Cathy Hassan: “If some outrageous garment on the international catwalks whips the media into frenzy then it’s all good publicity. “Most of these outfits are designed to get the designer splashed across the front pages, rather than to be worn by real people.”

But while catwalk couture may seem wild and wacky, designers insist that even the most radical outfits eventually filter through to the high street.

Take Jean-Paul Gautier’s pointy bra creation. The public scoffed at the it on the catwalk, until Madonna adopted the look, turning Gautier into a household name and making the cone shaped brassiere the fashion must-have of the late Eighties.
